I can attest that Katy's classes are well structured, fun, and effective. She was extremely devoted to incorporating each of the four skills (i.e. reading, writing, listening, and especially speaking) in each lesson she created and taught. Her ability to manage a daily routine and the classroom management related to that, were exemplary and because of her creativity and enthusiasm for the subject, students responded positively to her lessons. Their communicative speaking ability improved immensely. Katy’s willingness to take suggestions when given, modify lessons, and experiment with new strategies, demonstrated her motivation and reflection about teaching and learning. Katy has tremendous initiative, a desire to continue to learn, and a reflective practitioner outlook. Along with her command of the subject area and her effective teaching strategies with students, she is a model of an excellent teacher.

In over twenty five years of managing people, I can truthfully say that few if any others I've known have performed at this level. Of equal or greater importance is the caliber of person Katy is. She is one of the kindest, most thoughtful, and responsible people I have ever met.

About me
Hi! My name is Katy. I am originally from Los Angeles, California. I have been teaching English to all types of people since 2013: actors, comedians, entrepreneurs, translators, teachers, nurses, and veterans, just to name a few. I taught kids of all ages, teens, college students, moms, dads, grandparents, and grandparents.
I did not start as a teacher. In fact, I was not interested in teaching at all. My school experience taught me that being a teacher meant lecturing while students listened quietly and took notes. No thank you!
However, while studying at Harvard, I found that there are actually many, many different ways to teach and learn. Most of what we experience at school is only a small fraction of what is possible. I became passionate about education and decided to become a teacher. Since I love the English language and I love to travel, I decided to become an English teacher.
I earned my masters degree in TESOL (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) at SIT (School for International Training) in Brattleboro, Vermont and started teaching abroad and online.
Once I began teaching, I soon realized that school had not changed. Most schools still force teachers and students to use some old curriculum that is inappropriate for the diverse needs and interests of students.
Equally bad, most schools treat learning English as an academic subject rather than a communication skill.
Instead of teaching students how to actually communicate, we teachers were supposed to follow a bizarre grammar-of-the-week schedule that looked like this:
The fact is, nobody learns English by studying isolated grammar points, one at a time.
What if I told you you could learn everything you need to know about English grammar without studying it?
It's true. Languages are learned holistically, in context, the same way you learned your first language.
It became frustrating trying to do what the schools wanted me to do and actually teach my students real English they could use.
I didn’t become a teacher to perpetuate the problems of school. I became a teacher to help my students achieve their goals.
I realized that the best way I could teach English was to become an independent teacher. I also realized that the best way to reach as many people as possible was to teach online.
So, I created English Studio International.
Why English Studio International?
Each person has a unique reason why they wanted to learn English. Each person has a unique learning style. Unique interests. Unique goals.
And yet… other English teachers treat their students all the same. The same lessons for everybody. The same assignments for everybody. The same homework. The same boring textbooks. Sure, these students learn a little English, but it is difficult and unpleasant. Worse, because the classes are not created for them, most of what they learn just isn’t useful.
There’s a better way to teach and learn English. When you learn in the way that is right for you, you can:
That’s why I created English Studio International.
And, because all lessons are online, you don't have to travel back and forth to your lessons. Think of all the time and travel expenses you'll save!
When you become an English Studio International student, you will get lessons created especially for you, based on your interests and goals. I focus on making each class fun and interesting. When you have fun, you learn more!
I have something for you.
